Decouple curse-breaking from enchanting for enchant X scrolls

Currently enchanting items can sometimes break their curses, but this only works if the enchantment succeeds. This means that artifacts with high to-hit/damage bonuses which are heavily cursed cannot be uncursed this way except by disenchanting the weapon first (using disenchanter eyes, for instance).

Instead of this, the chance to remove curses should work regardless of whether the item is (or can be) enchanted higher.

Doesn't this make Remove Curse even more pointless than it already is? If enchant scrolls can break curses, then nobody will ever both with remove curse. IMO the interim solution to sticky heavy curses (pending the bigger changes with new curses etc.) is to have ?*RC* always available in the Temple. (i.e. we assume that everyone will keep one in case they wield a Morgul weapon).

I don't think this makes RC or *RC* significantly less useful than they already are (which isn't very useful). Currently Enchant Weapon/Armor? scrolls are considered very good/valuable and people tend to buy them out when possible and hang onto them to do things like create longbows +9/+9, or create better ammo, or what have you.

Using RC and *RC* is still more efficient than using up a bunch of enchantment scrolls. I imagine that the cost of *RC* can be brought down (or the cost of enchantment brought up) if you foresee pricing issues. I also think that having people save enchantments rather than using them is an interesting strategic decision.

I agree that it's a little incoherent, but I think it's worth trying. Obviously once curses are reworked this whole thing might change again.

I think the system as is is fine except that enchant scrolls should have a remaove curse percent (the same % for getting a +10 with an enchant scroll for a curse and a +12 for a heavy curse). I like the system Zangband has where Items can be cursed in game by enemies casting spells, and curses can become permanent.

Well, enchant scrolls already had a 25% chance to break curses on successful enchant. This bug is about making that just a 25% chance no matter what. I'm going to close it for now since that's currently checked in and getting playtesting. There have been some discussions on oook about whether this is correct that you might want to weigh in on.
