Revisit item destruction

A recent rgra thread mentioned this and got quite a bit of discussion. Ideas include:

  1. Remove the minimum chance of item destruction (which is apparently about 4%), and leave it purely proportional to damage.
  1. Calculate destruction *after* checking for resists. Combined with the above, this would reduce quite a bit of destruction.
  1. Reduce the weight of spellbooks - so people can carry multiple copies of the flammable ones with less pain.
  1. Introduce items "of elemental protection", which protect items. This could be a pack item (a la Sangband) or a property of a wielded item.

I forget the rest.
