Hi all,

Here's a little patch to add an opition to disable the "command menu".

It's against v3.1.2, but hopefully it'll work unchanged for current trunk.

Forgot the rationale: I tend to use the numpad ENTER key to skip messages and it's incredibly annoying to have a menu pop up accidentally when ascending/descending stairs.

I'm not interested in adding this patch; I advise you to either map Enter to \e if it's a big issue, or to try and rewire yourself just to use Space instead.

Let me add my voice to the request for this option. I've been playing Angband for at least 18 years and I've been using enter to clear messages (and escape to clear menus) the whole time. This change is VERY jarring. It may be that it's a good default, but given that it's not necessary to game play it ought to be at least easier to get rid of it without any unexpected side effects of new keymappings. The old behavior worked very well for 20 years.

Let me put the request in a slightly different light. One of the very best things about Angband compared to other games is that you can completely immerse yourself in the mechanics of playing the game with no perceptible delay, no loading screens, just hands on keyboard. Any interface change that disrupts established interface usage is going to probably frustrate a lot of people who won't bother to register and ask about it. I imagine if you got rid of roguelike keys you'd have a riot on your hands. I'm all for new features, but if those new features radically change the interface they should at least be optional.
