#1332 confirmed change

Add more mimic/lurker types

Reported by: GabeCunningham Owned by: GabeCunningham
Milestone: v4 Keywords: monster

Make it so mimics and lurkers act like items/terrain features until they attack you. This will be especially tricky with mimics -- should they appear on your item list? If so, we have to decide what flavor they are. A particular tempting idea is to choose a flavor, and to actually have the mimic drop that exact item.

Then add some more mimics/lurkers. A lurker with FRIENDS, a stair lurker. A unique mimic with an escort would be a lot of fun *evil laugh*

I have long wanted this. Mimics and lurkers should *not* show up on the monster list until after they attack. Having them show up on the item list is essential to avoid detection by deduction. We can give them a random flavour (but their colour will have to match, so we'll need a new ATTR_FLAVOUR flag).

Seems like they don't yet show up on the object list, and they're still detected by Detect Monsters.

  • Milestone changed from 3.3.0 to 3.4.0
  • Status changed from new to confirmed
  • Summary changed from Make mimics and lurkers tougher to Make lurkers tougher

Mimics sorted in [rf3c2a6a] (see #1479). Lurkers can be done separately (along with the unique mimic <grin>), as there is probably not enough time for testing any changes for 3.3. Punting to 3.4 because the ticket is owned.

Lurkers should actually be fully functional as well. They were somewhat easier than mimics to sort out and were mostly done before; now they are not detected by detect monsters either.

  • Milestone changed from 3.4.0 to 4.0

These are changes which should first be tried in v4.
