Unfortunately this fix causes unwanted messages to be printed about unseen monsters, such as "It is no longer afraid". So we will need to make mon-timed.c slightly more sophisticated when deciding how to call monster_desc().

Ugh. This involved a new "bool id" in project_m() which is passed into all the mon_inc/dec/clear_timed() calls. This is really quite hackish, but can't be fixed properly until a lot of work is done separating out messages from game events from command ui.

Unfortunately I can't confirm that this fix works until #1536 is fixed. But it's ready for testing at http://github.com/magnate/angband/tree/timedfix.

Fixed successfully in master as [r8aff0d3]. Applied (adjusted) to 3.3-release as [r7262006].
