#1580 closed bug (fixed (in master))

Elemental physical monster attacks should do damage regardless of immune status

Description (last modified by fizzix)

See http://angband.oook.cz/forum/showthread.php?p=63180#post63180:

Elemental melee with immunity makes you immune to physical melee attacks as well - meaning that if a monster has "hit to electrocute" and you are immune to electricity, you take no damage. This is wrong, since there is still the hitting, even if electrocution doesn't work.

Proposal is to make these attacks with like branding - base damage is specified, and brand damage on top of that. See Timo's proposal in the thread above for more detail.

There is also a perl script in the above thread which can do the monster.txt editing.

Note that this change should also solve the greater titans problem (hits to confuse not being reduced by AC). Properly separating the physical and elemental/other components of an attack should work both ways: physical damage is reduced by armour, and elemental damage by resistances. In the case of greater titans, the confusion is a non-damaging side effect, so the physical damage *should* be reduced by armour.

This was fixed with bron's immunity changes.
