#1901 closed bug (fixed (in master))

Monsters acting immediately on summoning

Reported by: nckmccnnll Owned by:
Milestone: Triage Keywords:

"Should monsters created by a scroll of "Summon Monster" be able to attack as soon as they appear? I just insta-deathed myself by reading an unidentified scroll:

You see a Scroll titled "co verio pior".
Wormtongue, Agent of Saruman creates a cloud of poison.
You die.
You are poisoned!

(The fact the "You see no more Scrolls of Summon Monster" message is currently MIA only made the whole incident even more rapid and bewildering.)" - Nomad

Need to actually check the behaviour here

I think monsters from scrolls and traps don't get summoned with 0 energy, (i.e. they can act immediately) while monsters summoned by spell start with 0 energy, meaning the player always gets to act before they do. This is the way it's been in the past, so I would say this is WAD.

I believe it's actually the other way around - non-monster summons have 0 energy - but there is no change from 3.5.1.

I hadn't closed this in case there was some other problem.

Fixed in 8c7da95fa; note this commit also introduces calling (from the level) of monsters from traps sometimes.
