Here are a couple of ideas off-hand:

  1. Trick doors. They look like doors, and they're placed where doors go, but they either do nothing, or (even meaner) they hurt you when you try to open them. Could also do trick stairs.
  2. Instant walls -- as soon as you step off the trapped tile, a wall springs up there.

I particularly like the idea (discussed in the second thread linked above) that traps are not specific to squares, but to whole rooms or areas. E.g. a trap that locks all the doors around a room, or that hides the staircase in the room, or that blocks one of the corridors etc.

  • Milestone changed from 3.3.0 to Future
  • Status changed from new to confirmed

Punting in accordance with new milestone policy (that any other milestone is only set once someone is actually working on the ticket).

FA and S both use a totally separate "trap layer" which allows traps to occupy squares independently of objects, monsters and @. This allows for all sorts of interesting stuff, including player-set traps. FA also puts runes in this layer, which is IMO an excellent idea.

Punting to post 3.5.

  • Milestone changed from Future to 4.1

Traps are now in a trap layer, as are runes.

4.1 is slated to deal with traps and their detection.

This is a work in progress in current master

  • Resolution set to fixed (in master)
  • Status changed from assigned to closed

Closing this now - the basic work is done, and what remains is detail of individual traps.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
